Baked Penne Pasta


Serves 6   Active Time 20 min.   Total Time 30 min.



1 pound penne pasta

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 yellow onion, diced 

6 garlic cloves, sliced

1 pound ground beef 

1/2 lb ground pork 
3 cups tomato sauce
1 cup cream or milk 
1 pound fresh mozzarella, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/2 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano

3/4 cup fresh breadcrumbs




  1. Preheat oven to 375F. 

  2. Cook penne according to package instructions until al dente. Drain in colander and place in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.

  3. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil to a large pot. Add onion, garlic, ground beef, and pork. Cook until the meat is no longer pink and fully cooked (about 7 to 10 minutes). 

  4. Add the cooked beef, tomato sauce, cream, mozzarella, Parmigiano-Reggiano, basil, and oregano to pasta and mix together.

  5. Pour pasta mixture into a 9- x 13-inch baking dish and sprinkle breadcrumbs over top.

  6. Bake in oven until bubbling and crusty on top, about 20 minutes. Remove from oven and serve.
