I received a message saying, “Chef Jon, I am craving a turkey burger that is both juicy and flavorful. Can you help?” The answer is yes. Turkey burgers are a great low-fat alternative to beef, but the lean meat makes it easier for them to dry out. To ensure your burgers don’t end up this way, they definitely need a little extra love to add in flavor. All it takes is a few secrets to get the perfect juicy grilled turkey burger!
I watched several turkey burger videos on YouTube for inspiration:
1. Tex Mex Turkey Burger Recipe - Laura Vitale - Laura in the Kitchen, Episode 435.
2. Spinach & Cheese Stuffed Turkey Burgers - Cooking with Carolyn.
3. Video explaining how to make a delicious low-fat turkey burger in less than 20 minutes.
As always, there are so many recipes out there for turkey burgers. Someone stated, "Michael Mina's turkey burger is out of this world!” However, I could not find the recipe for that one. My goal with any recipe I design is to put a new twist on the turkey burger and have a family exclaim, "This is our go-to Turkey Burger recipe.”
The game changer with my recipe is adding diced onion and feta cheese. The onion not only adds flavor, but it also causes a cavity and steams inside the burger allowing it to remain juicy. The feta cheese adds an element of saltiness and sturdiness, whereas if I used cheddar or mozzarella it would have melted.
