How I Test Every Recipe

Every recipe on this site has been made more than once before you see it. Here is how it gets here.

Chef Jon Ashton in his kitchen with a chopping board of lemons and limes

The Short Version

CREATED IN MY KITCHEN

Every recipe starts at my own stove

TESTED BY HOME COOKS

My testers cook just like you do

COOKED AT LEAST TWICE

Once to create it, once after testing

FIXED BEFORE IT GOES LIVE

Confusing steps and timings get changed

How a Recipe Gets to You

STEP 1 OF 4

Created in My Kitchen

I create every recipe in my own kitchen.

STEP 2 OF 4

Made by My Testers

Then I hand it to my recipe testers, who are home cooks like you.

STEP 3 OF 4

Cooked Again

I cook every recipe at least twice: once when I create it, and again after my testers have made it and told me what they think.

STEP 4 OF 4

Changed Before It Goes Live

If a tester finds a step confusing or a timing off, I change the recipe before it goes live.

If It Didn't Work for You

I want to know why. Tell me what happened, and I'll help you work out what went wrong. If the recipe needs to be clearer, I'll fix it.

My promise: I'll never put anything unkind on this site. Food should lift people up.
